The Checklist

  1. Make a list of everything you ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO DO. I mean everything!
  2. Make a list of everything you are REALLY GOOD AT. I mean everything!
  3. Look at both lists and try and see if there is a match or similar areas between what you love to do and what you’re really good at.
  4. Make a third list of the type of similarities/ categories/ industries/ that you see between both lists from line 1 and 2.
  5. Search and read up on potential jobs that fit in the categories you listed in line 4.
  6. Talk, volunteer, attend events in the field that you wrote in the third column.
  7. Meet people in that area of interest from line 4.
  8. Search online for job openings in industries in line 4.
  9. Land your dream job.
  10. DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET THE JOB!

This is the hardest most difficult question you’ll ever ask yourself…

Most people never answer it! Why, because they’re content, they have been mentally drained by the job they don’t love, or financial anchored to their younger years (Credit Cards, NEW CARS). How many days have you hit the snooze button to go back to bed…. How many times have you wanted to call into “work” sick….. When you finally find your passion, there is no such thing as a “job”!

WHEN YOU JUMP OUT OF BED BEFORE YOUR ALARM, THEN YOU HAVE FINALLY FOUND YOUR PASSION!

Step One

Make a List of Everything You Love To Do

I mean everything! This list can be a secret if you so choose, most people are embarrassed at what “they love”, but they shouldn’t be. Most people when asked direct questions, they fade or eye wander. I really want you to sit down and list everything from “loving” to eat a steak, to watching the sunrise, to how you love that first cup of coffee in the morning. This drill, is to open your mind to all the things you love, but haven never thought about loving…. Don’t just stop after one night of deep thought, this is a continuous list that will evolve over the course of our life. BUT for now, we want to tailor what you love (aka PASSION) with things you are REALLY REALLY GOOD AT!

Step Two

Make a list of everything you are REALLY GOOD AT.

I mean everything! Just like above, this list is not to be hidden, but to be explored! And most importantly, this is YOUR time to really brag on yourself. Most people say, well “that person is so cocky” or “that person is not humble”. Well, today I will tell you, I WANT YOU TO BE COCKY, I WANT YOU TO BRAG! This is your list, and nobody can tell you otherwise. Just for the record, if you are lost in your mind, this is normal, do me a favor, and ask some of your friends, siblings, parents, etc what they think you are really good at…. Whether you agree with them or not, I want you to list the feedback. This will allow you to think and dream.

Step Three

Match Interests Across Columns

Understand this next step is only as good as the steps above. I want you to look at both lists and try and see if there is a match or similar areas between what you love to do and what you’re really good at. It’s like a puzzle, but the ultimate reward is “not hitting the snooze button” ever again!

Nobody reads these but you!

I want you to dig deep and put down everything and anything that you have determined that fits into these categories! One day, you’ll be looking at what you love to do and what you’re really good at, and you’ll see a link! You’ll see a match in an industry or a field that “IT JUST CLICKED”! When this happens…That’s the start of your road towards your passion! This may take some time, but the more you write and more you think about these topics, the closer you’ll get to “finding it”!

Step Four

Explore Similarities

In the third column I want you to make a list of the type of similarities/ categories/ industries/ that you see between both your “Love” and “Good At” lists from line 1 and 2.

Step Five

Homework Time

Go online and just start reading about industries or jobs associated with the career you “might” be interested in. Make some notes as to pros and cons of each industry/career field. Your homework should be to see if there are free events or socials that you can attend to see if you 1) Like the people in that industry, 2)Does it fit your “vibe”. REMEMBER THIS: Do you like what you do, do you like who you do it with, and do you like where you live? My good friend “Bubbles” and I discussed this many years ago, and I’ll never forget his wise words.

Step Six

The Fun Stuff

Talk, volunteer, attend events in the field that you wrote in the third column. Meet people in that area of interest from line 4.

Step Seven

Look for Job Listings

Search online for job openings in industries in line 4. This part can be brain numbing, and very difficult, but I have one of the greatest pieces of advice: If you want it bad enough, you will literally “do whatever it takes”. When you truly understand these words, you will be blessed beyond, and you won’t know until you actually live by this….

Step Eight

Land Your Dream Job

Land your dream job! And when you have landed this job, take a picture, and put it somewhere high for all others to see. Because what you have achieved is something very few will ever understand, nor achieve because life hits them. Show the world it’s possible, because if you can do it, they can too! Now show the world that it’s not about the money, it never was…. You get one shot at this entire thing, now go get it!

Share Your Success!

Tell your story! This attitude is contagious and others want to surround themselves with your success, and remember to help those who come after….
